Casting Call for Spike TVs "Deadliest Warrior"
We are seeking 20-40 year old males that are authentic Comanche descendants. You must be proficient at horse-back riding, have bow and arrow skills, and must be able to speak on-camera about the history of the Comanches battle tactics. Those chosen to appear on the show will be flown to Los Angeles to shoot in mid February. Approximate shoot dates are 2/11 – 2/15. All flight and hotel fees will be paid by the show as well as $200 per shoot day. Probable 3 shoot days. Will be in town, casting January 23–24. For location, date, and time, contact: Darrell Kosechequetah 580-591-1449.
For those interested, we are going to have a meeting of the minds at 12 noon on Friday, January 15th at:
Comanche National Museum
701 NW Ferris Avenue
Lawton, OK 73507
580-353-0404
This initial meeting will be to get a list going of men who may want to tryout and to pull together the resources needed for the tryout. We’ll need people with great knowledge of our warrior history and weapons to help mentor those who try out, people who have a location the men can ride horses on to show they can ride, horses, authentic style bows and arrows that the guys can shoot. The casting director would like to video and interview 15-20 guys. Only a few will be chosen for the show. After this initial meeting another meeting will be set the following week to further prepare for the interviews that will take place on the January 23rd and 24th.
The top rated cable TV series, “Deadliest Warrior” is seeking experts on the Comanche Warrior. “Deadliest Warrior” takes two iconic warriors, pits them against each other in a hypothetical battle, compares weapons and battle tactics, and then hypothesizes who would win.
Last season featured an Apache Warrior battling a Roman Gladiator.

Well, strictly speaking the gladiators were not what we would think of as warriors. One might consider a centurian a warrior, but to my understanding a gladiator was more like a thug who usually fought those much weaker than himself and perhaps occasionally would have an even match with another gladiator not for any cause particularly but instead for the amusement fo the fatcats. _________________ "To be ignorant of what happened before you were born... is to live the life of

I think I watched part of this show. The Apache guy was some kind of knife fighter or something like that. I was actually a bit proud of the guy he marketed himself on the past, Apache skills, in the jobless environment of his reservation. That is impressive.
Now I'll piss everybody off. I doubt any modern 'Indian' has the skills of their ancestors. That was all about survival and keeping the family out of slavery and/or the ground.
If you really wanted to see crap fly, get between a native woman and her children, toss a knife in the mix and I would start praying for the gladiator. A native woman. Maybe a guy but not really. _________________ "The good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain." - Bob Marley |

I agree. No one N.A. tribe fights like their ancestors did. I'd be fully amazed and awed if anyone kept that "fighting-style" tradition.
Now most N.A. look up to UFC, MMA, etc. as their inspiration to fight. I wouldn't know how Navajos back in the day would've fought. Now I'm curious. _________________ Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. –Steve Jobs |

Same as anyone else fights, I guess. Using whatever is available and useful and whatever tactics prove effective (if you survive long enough to find that out).
What your question really asks seems to be, 'how did the early Dine' utilize their knowledge of the land to their advantage and what types of weapons did they develop out of the raw materials available to them.'
There might be sociological questions as well. Some groups tend ot draw together in times of conflict or join allies while others tend to disband and spread out. That too depends a lot on terrain, force balance, and the kind of war you are fighting. _________________ "To be ignorant of what happened before you were born... is to live the life of
